The 2017 and 2018 model years represent different points in the production history of the best-selling midsize sedan from Toyota: the Camry. While 2017 marks the end of the nameplate’s seventh production cycle, which saw the car adopt a more attraction-based exterior design than ever before, the 2018 version kicks off the eighth production cycle to continue and uphold that aesthetic philosophy—with a few technical and technological improvements.

Although both the 2017 and 2018 Camry models offer the choice between a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine and a 3.5-liter V6, they differ in output. On the 2017 model, the 2.5-liter I4 provides 178 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, and the 3.5-liter V6 provides 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. On the 2018 model, the 2.5-liter I4 generates 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque (25 more horsepower and 14 more lb-ft of torque), with the option of increasing the output further to 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque; and the 3.5-liter V6 produces 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque (35 more horsepower and 19 more lb-ft of torque). Also, while the 2017 Camry gets a 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2018 version rolls with an 8-speed auto. As a result, peak fuel economy is improved from 24/33 mpg to 29/41 mpg.

As sleek as the 2017 Toyota Camry looks, the 2018 version goes further with a more sculpted look to the wing-like front grille and fascia, and the rear top end is slightly elevated. Also, the fog-light cutouts on the 2018 Camry are enlarged.

On the 2017 Toyota Camry, the standard comfort and convenience features include cruise control, remote keyless entry, voice recognition, Entune™ infotainment integration, six-speaker audio, Bluetooth® hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen. On the 2017 version, the touchscreen is increased to 7 inches, a 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display and Siri® Eyes Free for executing voice commands are added, and there’s a three-year complimentary subscription to the Connected Navigation Scout® GPS Link app for assisting with turn-by-turn directions.
