Proper Tire Maintenance

Tires are one of the most critical components of your vehicle, making routine tire maintenance extremely important to ensure that your vehicle maintains optimal performance and safety. Having your tires rotated regularly will help prevent uneven wear, reduced fuel efficiency, poor handling and shortened tire life. In order to help you protect your vehicle and investment, Jeff Wyler Toyota of Clarksville is proud to provide tire maintenance in our state-of-the-art Toyota Service Center in Clarksville, IN.

Are Your Tires Safe?

Not sure if your tires are in safe driving condition? There are a number of methods that can help you know if it's time to replace a tire. One of the simplest methods is called the Penny Test. All you'll need is a penny and a few minutes of spare time. Plus, at Jeff Wyler Toyota of Clarksville, we offer a free tire inspection, so you can be sure that your tires are in safe driving condition!

The Penny Test :
Step 1:
Place a penny between the tread ribs on your tire. A "rib" refers to the raised portion of tread that spans the circumference of your tire. Tire tread is composed of several ribs.
Step 2:
Turn the penny so that Lincoln's head points down into the tread.
Step 3:
See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If it does, your tread is still above 2/32 of an inch. If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire because your tread is no longer deep enough.

Other Things To Keep In Mind

Air Pressure

Air Pressure

Regardless of each tire's physical condition, improper air pressure will cause it to underperform -- or even damage it. Maintaining the recommended level of air pressure in your tires is one of the easiest ways to preserve the life of your tires and allow them to provide you and your vehicle with the best level of performance possible. There are a few different ways your tires' air pressure levels can change. Obviously, if your tire is punctured in any way, air pressure will be lost, and you'll have to replace the tire. Something as simple as the outside temperature can also affect tire pressure, though. As the weather cools, air contracts and reduces pressure (and vice versa). In addition to checking air pressure regularly for small losses in pressure, be sure to check your tires whenever there's a significant change in temperature or season.

Balance & Alignment

Similar to how certain parts of your shoes wear depending on how you walk, certain parts of your tires can wear more quickly based on how your vehicle drives. The easiest and most effective way to prevent this is to have them balanced and aligned regularly, based on professional recommendations. While the science and technology of tires have advanced over the years, resulting in a reduced need to have these services performed as frequently, it's not something you want to forget about. If you'd like the wear of your tires assessed, be sure to stop by Jeff Wyler Toyota of Clarksville for an inspection.

Tire Pressure

Tire Pressure & MPG

In addition to preserving the performance and life of your tires, proper tire air pressure can also help your vehicle return better fuel economy. According to the United States Department of Energy, properly inflated times can return an additional 3.3 percent to your vehicle's current fuel economy scores. When your tires aren't properly inflated, your vehicle has to work harder to bring you to your destination, and inclement weather or adverse driving conditions only make the problem worse. Be sure to check the recommended PSI for your vehicle that's found inside the driver's door jam, versus the number found on the side of your tire to provide the best results.

Tires for Sale in Clarksville IN

It can be confusing when you are shopping for tires for sale in Clarksville IN. Remember, the tires on your Toyota or other vehicle are incredibly important, providing safety for you and your family by providing optimal traction and handling, as well as comfort for both on-road and off-road driving. Your first decision is whether you need new tires, and the "penny" test is a quick indicator to help you. Take a penny and stick it into your tire tread. If part of Lincoln's head is covered, you should be okay, but if you can see all of Abe's head, it is time for some new tires. Don't forget to check for uneven tread wear across the tire, as you might have sufficient tread on one part of the tire, but not on the other.

If you need new tires in Clarksville, Indiana, call Jeff Wyler Clarksville Toyota and we will determine the tire type, tire width, aspect ratio, construction, and rim diameter of the tires for your Toyota or other car, truck, van, minivan or SUV. There is also a speed rating on the tire, but this should not be much of an issue unless you have a high performance sports car. It is very important that you buy the right size and style tires for your vehicle to ensure optimum performance and to avoid costly repairs in the future. Our Jeff Wyler Clarksville Toyota parts advisor can help provide tire price quotes on both Toyota recommended tires and discount tires, and assist you with your decision in balancing quality and price to provide the best tire deals in Clarksville, Indiana. While cheap tires may be inexpensive, one must balance the safety, performance, and reliability of cheap tires versus better quality tires.
