What's New for the 2023 Toyota GR86?
If you crave solid performance and great features in an affordable sports coupe, the 2023 Toyota GR86 is the model to take a closer look at. The second generation of the GR86 was released in 2022 and introduced bumper-to-bumper updates. In 2023, the updates will carry forward and combine with an all-new trim level. This is the Special Edition trim, which is offered in limited production. This trim is a step above the top Premium trim level. It has interior and exterior badging, 18-inch black wheels, Solar Shift paint, racing stripes, a high-performance exhaust system with black finishers, and high-performance tires.
Except for the Special Edition features, the exterior of the 2023 Toyota GR86 is unchanged. This coupe has a perfectly rounded hood and nose. The black grille curves confidently into large air vents. The teardrop headlights follow the swell over the front fenders. The rear fenders are equally well-defined, and strong rocker panels underline the smooth door panels. Some or all trims come with summer tires, adaptive headlights, a rear spoiler, heated and power-adjusting side-view mirrors, and more.
The interior of the GR86 accommodates four passengers comfortably. The front end has a cockpit-like feel, a sculpted dashboard, and a flared center stack. At the top of the stack, a pair of horizontal air vents sit above the protruding central display screen. The climate management system’s controls are angled toward the leather-wrapped stick gear shifter in the console. Interior features could include an eight-speaker sound system, suede and leather seats, aluminum pedals, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, connected services, a 7-inch driver’s gauge screen, satellite radio, keyless entry, and more. The safety tech available in the GR86 includes a lane departure alert, auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, rear auto braking, and a blind-spot monitor.
The GR86 for 2023 gets its power from a horizontally-opposed, four-cylinder, 2.4-liter engine. The powertrain produces 228 horsepower, and it is paired with rear-wheel drive. You can choose between a six-speed auto or manual transmission. A limited-slip differential is available with the manual transmission.
